But most boaters are not aware of how to deal with the situation or the many things they could do to help eradicate the threat that these oil spills pose to the environment. We can’t always expect the Coast Guard and other organizations that are involved in oil spill response to keep a check on the waterfront for spills. So, it’s our duty to act wise and report the spill at the earliest. And beware! If you’re the spiller and don’t report the spill, then you will be subjected to a substantial fine! When you encounter an oil spill, act quickly and try to locate the source of the leak. Once you track down the leak, your next move should be to control the leak. Although there are many different options to resort to, it is advisable that you carry oil spill kit with you. Your kit should include oil adsorbent pads, a pair of rubber gloves, and hand tools such as scissors, screw drivers, and pliers.
